"School Days"

One of my very early post, "Back to School", was about the Graphic Presentation class I've been taking this semester.  I know, you're wondering when do I sleep.  Strangely enough, I get almost 8 hours every night.  Not sure how that happens.  Anyway, I thought I'd share a little bit of what I've learned as the semester approaches its end.

Truthfully, I'm a little insecure about my drawings this semester, so I hesitated to share.  But, when reading the post from January and realizing that the professional pictures that I posted didn't look too much better than my work, I reconsidered.

So it all started this semester with a chair similar to this (including measurements)....

Hickory Chair

We had to draw it in two-point perspective and shadow both in pencil...

and in marker, which I've yet to master .....

Honestly, there were a couple of nights where I literally wanted to throw something, the process was so difficult.  In the end, I persevered.

As if that weren't enough we then had to go from a chair to an entire room....

The process was so tedious that I think I used about a dozen layers of tracing paper in the process.
Ultimately, by the time I was done, I was just to glad to have finished the assignment.....

At which point I had to do it all over again in color....

Needless to say, I was relieved when we received our latest project, a design board.  No drawing involved!

I just finished and will turn it in tomorrow.  Please note that the fabric selections were not mine.  :   )

Although it's been a painful process, I guess you could say I've learned a lot.  The good news is the semester is coming to a close.  The bad news is I have an eery feeling I'm going to have to do this process all over again once more for the final project.

Just an FYI to all of my current and prospective clients, don't expect any hand-drawings anytime in the near future.  Thank heavens for modern technology.
