"Bedside Beauty"

I am beyond excited about my new Craigslist find bamboo desk.  I blogged about it HERE.  It not only fits perfectly in the space next to my bed, but it is going to be equally as pretty.

A bedside desk is a great option for additional function in a bedroom and it can provide more interest than a matching pair of nightstands.  Now, if I could just get motivated to paint.  The good news is I've selected the paint and I went with a color that is very close to the color of the nightstand that I have.

Lowe's

It's called Montpelier Wedgewood by Valspar.

The bad news is that it is still sitting in the same place it's been for the past two weeks....

I'm going bright white with the chair...

I'm also planning to accessorize with a few items including these....

Have a great weekend!!  I know what I'll be doing.

"Anchors Aweigh"

I thought I'd share my latest project with you guys.  I'm working on another boy's room, but this time he's a little older.  Actually, he doesn't even dwell in the space since he's away in school at the US Naval Academy.

I'm planning to use the school colors to drive the theme in this not so "themey" nautical room.  Here's the idea board.

Since the room is already a light blue color, I'm going with navy as the base.  We'll have navy drapes, end tables and headboard.  I'm going to add just a punch of yellow.  The yellow is a little bright so I'm using it sparingly.  I also want to add natural elements like baskets...

Who knows, maybe even an anchor...

As always, I'm really excited about the project and I can't wait to see (and share) how it turns out.

"Design in the City: Part Two"

If you've been following my blog for a while, you probably recall me posting HERE about my first distance decorating client in NYC.  She agreed to be my guinea pig and we came up with a plan that gave her some direction in terms of where she should head with the design.

My First Distance Project Idea Board

Well, while in NYC last week I had a chance to stop by and check out the progress.  How cool!  I was pleased to see that things were coming along.   She's fully utilized the color scheme and has been able to purchase a sofa, a rug and throw pillows.

She decided on a more practical sofa selection than the white, but the rug and pillows she selected are almost dead ringers to the ones I proposed.

Home Decorators

As you can imagine in an NYC apartment, storage is a must.  So she's added a storage cabinet adjacent the bathroom to store linens and toiletries.

I also loved the dress form turned purse rack.

I originally suggested adding in some black and white damask.....

And much to my pleasure, it has found its way into the room as bedding.

Note:  Still hoping Santa is following my blog because I have to get a suitable camera
I was also able to measure for draperies and have suggested that I get yellow draperies made for her using the same material used for the ones found HERE only in yellow.

And finally, as luck would have it later that day while shopping I ran into this perfectly hued chest of drawers.  She actually already has one, but I really think it would be a good idea to add a little more color to the space by painting it.

We were also able to come up with a few additional ideas.  Like adding some pink painted frames to the mix for wall art. Similar to these....

And solving the subway tiled small bathroom storage issue by hanging baskets on command hooks.

In this case and as with most of us, there are always more projects than there are resources, so this one will come together slowly over time.  Of course, I think that's half the fun.  I'm just glad I was able to help get things started.  Are you interested in Distance Decorating?  Read more HERE and feel free to contact me at dwellbycheryl@yahoo.com

"Carolina Takes the City"

This weekend me and my friend Bonnie from South Carolina had a chance to visit the Big Apple!  No matter how often you go to NYC, there's always so much to see and do.

So much great art.....

So much great food....

Even off of the food trucks.

And of course cool shops.  I feel in love with this little bath shop called Rain.  It had the most wonderful smelling bath salts and scents, but it also had great bath accessories which were all handmade by artisans in Africa.

I couldn't resist this paper mache' bowl, especially for $5.00.  SOLD!

Go figure, we walked outside of our hotel on Saturday and there was a huge street fair with vendors for blocks.

My personal favorite was this vendor who had hand woven rugs in the most beautiful prints and colors.

This one was seriously tempting.....

Several hours and a lengthy, crowded and somewhat smelly subway ride later, we found ourselves in SoHo at some very well-known interior design shops.

I'm dying for one of these brass pharmacy lights.  Certainly one will turn up on Craigslist, at Goodwill or  a consignment shop.

Bonnie was salivating over this carved wooden scoop, but at almost $300 she decided against it.  Lol!

We made a quick stop in Rachel Ashwell's Shabby Chic shop.  You probably know her from her line at Target.  She basically created "shabby chic" style.

And last but not least, I fell in love with C.Wonder.  Think Lily Pulitzer with a younger, more modern twist.

Love the nesting bowls on the bottom shelf.  They had me at Ikat.

Such cute colorful accessories.

They have a great website.  Check it out here:  C.Wonder website

It was a great trip, spent with a great friend.

Now it's back to the grind....

More to come on my trip this week.
