"Goodwill Lamp: Before and After"

In case you haven't noticed, lamps seemed to have gotten really expensive.  Add to that the fact that you often need a set to flank the bed or the top of a buffet or console table, and you could be looking at spending a pretty penny.

 Sale- $99.99

Z Gallerie- $159.00

That is, unless you shop smart.  I find in my thrifting excursions that lamps seem to be among the most plentiful and inexpensive items.  It also doesn't hurt that so many of the shapes/sizes that are "hot" today are nods to the styles of yesteryear.   You may recall in my Goodwill Ambassador post, the cute lamps that I found.

I really like the shape and the leaf pattern.

And of course the price was right....

While I actually loved the yellow, I decided to use them for a client project and yellow isn't part of the color scheme.  I went with a creamy vanilla for the body of the lamp.....

I also freshened up the brass parts with my old faithful, Rust-Oleum Hammered Bronze....

Not bad huh?   Since one lamp didn't come with a harp and the one that came with the lamp was too tall, I had to purchase new harps and finials.  However, I had no idea, that there was a science to selecting the right shade and harp height.  I found this diagram helpful.

In the past I just used what looked "right".  Perhaps I was applying this principle and just didn't know it.  I also had no idea that there were so many harp sizes to choose from....

I ended up selecting an inexpensive drum lamp shade from Lowe's.....

And I'm pretty pleased with the result.....

Can't wait to share with you the pictures of the lamps in the client's space!

So, what do you think?  Let me know, I'd love to hear from you.
