"I've Got the Blues"

I realized the other day that I'm definitely having a blue moment.  My last few projects and several I'm currently working on all feature shades of the versatile hue.  Recently, I had the opportunity to work with a client who has a second home in the Charlotte area.  While she lives full-time on the west coast, she's hoping to one day relocate here.  In the meantime, she purchased a small townhouse to serve as here home away from home retreat and hired us to freshen things up.  She requested a vacation vibe and was pretty open to color.  She had a few pieces of colorful art that we worked in throughout the home but I wanted to keep it pretty serene in her master bedroom.

Here's a look at the space before...

She shared photos with me of her larger art pieces and I decide to use this large print from the Harlem Renaissance as a jumping off point.

The black and white print dictated that I incorporate gray in some way but I knew I wanted something more dramatic on the walls.  We opted for a rich blue with purple undertones from Sherwin Williams called Distance.

It became the backdrop for a soothing retreat.  We had Baity's custom upholstery create a tufted headboard with a lush gray velvet to create a focal point on the vaulted wall.

Matching side tables and lamps create a bit of symmetry which also serves to create calm int he space.

I love the combination of blue and purple.  It strikes just the right note on this custom lumbar pillow that ties it all together.

I'm not a big faux floral person but in this case, since the homeowner is only here occasionally, I thought it made sense.

My favorite space in the room is this little reading nook.  I'm a firm believer that every master bedroom should have a space to sit and relax.  This armless Bernhardt Furniture chair was perfect for the corner of the room.  The striking raffia lamp from Robert Abbey lighting give just a little touch of   an island vibe, something the client mentioned she liked.

I love how this little retreat turned out.  It's difficult to convey how warm and inviting this space feels in person, but my client couldn't have been happier with how it all turned out.
