About Me

I was born and raised in Gulfport, Mississippi and moved to the Carolinas in 1999 after graduating from Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Family and Consumer Science. I’m a Registered Dietitian by trade, and until recently worked in human resources by day, but I've always been completely obsessed with interior design.

My love for decorating dates back to elementary school when I’d line up my slumber party guest’s shoes along the wall, so as not to have them be a visual distraction.  A three-year stent in fashion merchandising and modeling in high school served as yet another opportunity to exercise my creative muscle. It also should have been an indication that I was destined to work in a creative field, but better late than never.  I recognized quickly that you need more than just a keen “eye” for design to run a business, so I went back to school to complete an Interior Design program here in Charlotte, NC.  Working full-time, running a business and going to school was no easy feat, but alas after six years of hard work,  I received my Residential Design Diploma in 2017.

After nearly a decade of denial, deliberation and deferring, I finally decided to go for it and made the leap to full-time entrepreneurship on January 1, 2017 (Five years, to the day, after starting this blog).  I launched this blog and Dwell by Cheryl Interiors as a way to explore my creative side.  It quickly became my passion and more importantly my ministry.  I hope that my design chronicles will in someway inspire you to create a space you love and want to dwell.
