"Removing the Wallpaper"

It's no secret that I'm a woman of action, and this weekend was no exception. Unfortunately, I wasn't having the best day on Friday, and when that happens I have a desire to stay busy.  I happened to see this awesome project Shannon of Burlap and Lace posted on Instagram and my wheels began to turn.

"Hmmm, a stencil", I thought.  You see I've never actually loved my living room wallpaper.  I actually purchased it before I moved in six years ago.  It was one of those things that I found at a great price and decided to make it work.  Note: Always a red flag.  I'm learning slowly but surely that if you have to make it work, it probably should be left at the store.

Anyway, it's one of those little things in my home that I've never been really satisfied with.  I LOVE wallpaper, don't get me wrong, but this pattern was never truly me.  Which made me wonder, why do we live with things in our homes that we don't love.

Of course, I understand that some things are out of our reach financially, but others could easily be changed.  So, I made the decision Friday night that I wasn't settling for mediocre wallpaper anymore...

...and down it came.  For those of you who have never removed wallpaper, this was a BIG decision.  You just never know what's going to happen once you get started, and there is absolutely NO turning back.  I'm pleased to report that by mid-day Saturday (me, a steamer and 6 hours of work later)...

... I had two full bags of wallpaper and that was that.  The next step was paint.  I knew that I wanted something lighter as the base coat and I was hoping that Lowe's would have a can of $5.00 oops paint that would fit the bill.  Unfortunately, all they had were these clearance containers of Pantone Paint.

The color is lovely, but the paint is about the consistency of cocoa butter.  Let's just say it's been way more trouble than it was worth.  After going back to pick up some paint thinner, I was able to get the majority of the wall painted.

And then, of course I ran out of paint.  Urgh!! When bargains backfire... (that's another blog post for another day).  So, this week, I intend to hunt down another container of Seedpearl, and finish up the wall.  Afterwards, I'll need to decide what pattern I'm going with.   I'm debating between...

The pattern will be a brown similar to the existing color on the other walls in the room. Thoughts?

I don't think you can really go wrong with any of them, but I concur with the others on #3.

It's a tuff choice between one and three, but... three is the winner in my eyes. It will look great with any of them though! Good luck.
