Happy Friday!

Friday Find: Faux Bamboo Lamp

Sorry for the radio silence this week.  I've been knee deep in projects around the house.  I'm convinced that I attempt to cram way too much into 24 hours.   Between repainting my  office, working on the patio and gardening, it's been a pretty crazy week.

I did have a chance to run out during lunch on Wednesday to one of the local thrift stores.  Every last Wednesday of the month they have 50% off the entire store, so it was worth it to stop by.  I'm so glad I did, because today I have the Friday Find to end all Friday Finds.

After spending about 20 minutes or so scoping out the home goods section I ended up with two floral picture frames an awesome pharmacy floor lamp and a pretty cool faux bamboo ceramic lamp.  Best of all, I only spent $13.00!

One of my favorite things to do after thrifting is to research the cool finds on the web.  There's something thrilling about knowing you've purchased something worth more than you paid for it.  Imagine my surprise when a Google search yielded this...

Say what?  I almost choked on my lunch.  It was my lamp!!

Yep, the lamp I'd just paid $4.00 for was selling for $1125 on 1st Dibbs.  UNREAL!   Now I know, some of you would immediately try to sell it, but I think it's way more fun to keep some of the good stuff for yourself.

Not to mention the faux bamboo pairs so well with my wall stencil.  I couldn't get home fast enough to ditch my quite lovely Pottery Barn gourd lamp for this valuable vintage stunner.

It makes me smile every time I pass it.

Isn't she lovely?  Now that's what I call a FRIDAY FIND!  Happy Hunting....

Score!!

Typically my blog posts are about some great thing I saw and didn't get, or that I dream of having, but today I'm pleased to report that this time I scored. So, you know how much I love bamboo furniture. I'm drawn to it like a moth to a flame.  In it's natural state, it looks very Asian, but I also love the fact that it looks so great painted. There's something so fresh and modern about it.

It's one of the things that I search for on Craigslist almost daily.  As you know, I've mentioned bamboo furniture already in a handful of posts.  Remember these chairs?

Has there ever been a more versatile type of furniture?

Needless to say, when I saw this $20 beauty on Craigslist late one night, I almost sprang out of the bed.

After calling the owner the next morning and realizing that it was still up for grabs, I scurried 35 miles to get it as quickly as possible before someone else did.  You should've seen me and the owner trying to figure out how to get this desk into my coupe.

Thankfully, we finally did. I'm going to use it to replace the bookshelf next to my bed.  It's one of those pieces that I purchased when I was just starting out and never got around to upgrading.

I'm leaning toward painting the desk white, but something like this one.....

... is really tempting too.  I'm so excited!  I can hardly wait to work on it.  I'll definitely let you know how it turns out.

Also, on Wednesday head over to Jennifer's blog to check out my first ever guest blog post!  I'm talking about one of your favorite topics...closets.

Like the new desk?  Do you hink it should be white or a color? Leave me a comment.  I'd love to hear from you.

Craigslist Killers!.... Deals That Is

If money were no object and I had a huge storage space, I’d spend all of my time on Craiglist scoring major deals on fabulous stuff.  I can’t tell you how many great killer deals I’ve gotten (and made) over the years and it just keeps getting better.  One of my personal favorites was this set of six bamboo chairs for $60.

Yes, that’s $10 a piece!  Just for a point of reference, these are $17 on Wal-Mart’s website.  Hello.

I immediately painted them white for a gathering at my home.  Previously they were a pinkish pickled wood. Unfortunately, 99% of the time they lived in my garage until I recently decided to give them a fresh update with a coat of paint, recovered seat cushions and the addition of a couple of monogrammed throw pillows.

One word, YUM!

In case you run into your own killer deal on some retro chic bamboo furniture, here are a few ideas.

  • Tangerine is the Pantone 2012 Color of the Year, remember.

  • Better hope you beat me to this one.  I would LOVE to own a bench like this.

  • Using a bamboo screen as a headboard = great idea!
