"Taxidermy: Beyond the Lodge"

You're familiar with taxidermy, right?  You know the wall mounted animal heads that you typically find in a lodge or a man-cave.  The term taxidermy means, the art of preparing, stuffing, and mounting the skins of animals, especially vertebrates.  Sounds lovely, huh?  But, have you noticed how big and mainstream taxidermy has become?  It seems lately that you can run into these wall mountable animal heads everywhere!

So, you might be thinking, "There's no way, I'm putting an animal head in my dwelling."  But before you rule them out.  Take a look at how well they work in a modern space.

  • A little too life-like for me, but I can see how it works in the space.....

  • Not just for looks anymore.  Check out the utilitarian use of these as hooks.....

    • Erich Ginder
    • Although mounted above the mantel in the traditional location, this option strikes just the right note against the graphic grey and white wallpaper.

    • This option is quite unexpected in such a traditional space, but somehow it works....

The option that I'd be most likely to mount is hands down this Rachel Denny hot pink cable knit deer.  Love it!

I'm a huge fan of the heads and actually like the quirky look of using the heads as hangers/hooks.

I do too Stacey. I think it's kind of country chic.
