Video Promo Reveal!

Today I've got a special treat for you all.  Several months ago, looking to give potential clients a glimpse into what working with Dwell by Cheryl is like, I decided to have a video produced that would accomplished just that.

I had the pleasure of working with a supporting a high schooler with an amazing talent for video production.  His name is Wesley Miles and he's the owner of W72 Media.  As a new entrepreneur, I try to support other entrepreneurs who are working to establish a name and a brand in their area of passion too.  Working with Wesley was a sheer delight.  I know you'll be as impressed with his work as I was.  Check it out and let us know what you think!

I'll be adding this video permanently to my Design Services page. Feel free to share it.

I hope to work with Wesley on future design webisodes, where I'll be sharing some tricks of the trade for budget-friendly design. Be sure to show him some love and "like" his business page HERE and mine too. Stay tuned...

"An Action Packed Install"

What a weekend!  I'm so happy to report that I had a great install this weekend.  I don't think it could've gone any better.  The clients loved it, and that certainly makes it all worth it.  Here's a little sneak preview....

I can't wait to reveal the before and after photos.  This install was particularly fun.  Not only was it for a fantastic family with a design that's much bolder than my usual, but I also decided it would be the perfect project to film my first video.  I've been wanting to do a promo video for a while, something fun that shows my process and what my work is all about.

Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting Wesley of W72 Media, a 17 year old business owner and videography prodigy, at a "day job" networking event.  I immediately knew he'd be perfect to help bring my video vision to life.  I was right.  This was my first video shoot and let's just say, I have a new respect for people in television.

We filmed take....

....and I'm so excited to see the result.  Following that, Camilo of Cam Richards Photography came in for my traditional photo shoot and I'm chomping at the bit to get the photos.

This Dwell by Cheryl adventure is shaping up to be an incredible ride, and I'm enjoying (and thankful for) every minute.  Until next time...

Hump Day Humor

I've been working hard lately to pull together design plans for two new client projects.  So,  I thought we could all probably use a little Hump Day humor. Have you guys seen this commercial?

I think this commercial is hilarious, especially the reactions of the office employees.  Lol!

You know, design can be funny too, or at least a little quirky.  I find that it's often those odd and whimsical little elements that give a space personality, don't you?  Here are a couple of my favorites.

Check out Dwellings By Devore's super cute towel hook.  Sure, you could use the standard big box store's towel hook options, but how much more personality does this DIY'd guy bring to this powder room.  Love it!  See more of the project on her Glittered Gold Taxidermy post.

Emily Clark hit the ball out of the park with this cute kid's space.  I'm a die-hard Emily fan and when she posted sneak peeks of this project I just knew the navy clover stencil was going to be the show stopper.  I was wrong!  This oversized "funny" poster makes an even larger statement.  Retro, quirky and somehow chic.  Love it too!  Read more about her design and vote for her the Pottery Barn contest by checking out her entire project on her Book Nook Reveal post.

And lest we forget my fun and quirky bright yellow front door.  Please, don't get me started.  If you missed that post, check it out on one of my very early blog entries called See It, Like It, Do It: Front Door Project.

The goal in every design project should be to be yourself.  If in the end the space makes you feel at home and happy (even to the point of a little chuckle inside) then, in my opinion, that's a well-designed space.  Happy Hump Day!

Hack Reveal and My First Vlog!

Hope you all had a great Christmas, I did.  It was busy but fun.  I had another successful install while I was at home in Mississippi.  But before I show you the great before and after photos, I thought I'd share how my Ikea hack turned out.  You can read more about Ikea hacking HERE, but basically it's become really popular to take Ikea's (known for being sleek and modern) furniture and make it your own.

I've done just that with this inexpensive set of nesting tables.

Ikea Vittsjo Nesting Tables

I love a DIY project that easy and this was certainly one of those.  It required only two things:

  • The two tables
  • Gold spray paint

Lately, I've been using Valspar, but there are numerous options.  I like this one because it goes on evenly and doesn't require coat after coat after coat.  Like I said, I like easy.

I was feeling adventurous so I (along with my assistant, a.k.a. big sister) filmed a little video to give you a glimpse into the process and provide a quick tip.  This is my first attempt at a Video Blog (Vlog post), so forgive me if it's super cheesy.  Let me know if you like, and I'll try to do more.

    Check it out...

Special thanks to Charri Luckett my impromptu videographer

And here's a sneak peek at the result and upcoming reveal....
