"Operation Garage Organization - Phase I"

This weekend was a busy one.  I completed another client project install and I couldn't be happier with the result.  If you follow me on social media, you likely caught a glimpse of the project.  The clients loved it and that makes all the hard work and planning totally worth it.

More on that project later.  Today, I'm here to chat with you about my recent garage transformation. Last weekend, my friend and fellow entrepreneur Jennifer of Pure and Simple Organizing, set aside some time to help me wrangle the mess in my garage.

I'll admit, I'm a little hesitant to even share the before for the space because it was such a mess, but that's real life I suppose.  Now, while I don't consider myself to be a very organized person, I do like things pretty (obviously) and that means there has to be some level of organization.  Inside my home, I like a place for everything and everything in its place.  However, in the garage things seem to have gotten out of hand.

Let me start by sharing with you the fact that when it comes to organization, Jennifer doesn't play.  She's known for getting it done (and that often involves some tough decisions) but also making it fun.  We Periscoped during the day and this first scope gives you a sense of the plan for the day.

It's a great video, so check it out...

Like I said, Jennifer was on a mission! The first thing we did was begin to pull everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING) out.  It was important for me to actually see what I was storing.  I really like her system of categorizing the contents in long rows.  It made it really simple to see and evaluate.

The good news for her was that I'm not really very emotionally attached to my stuff.  I think it's because I shop often.  I don't really feel like anything is irreplaceable (especially if it's sitting in my garage unused).  This made throwing things out fairly painless and very quick.

Of course, there was cleaning along the way and tons of stuff to transport to the recycling center and to our local charity thrift store.

I'll will say, the best thing about the process for me was finding things that have been misplaced over time, like this pumpkin that I looked everywhere for recently.

Jennifer knows that organization isn't the most fun activity.  In fact, she blogged about it recently on the Pure and Simple Organizing blog.  Thankfully she works really hard to make it fun.

We had a blast!

After eight hours and three trips to haul things away, I FINALLY had an organized space.

MORE AFTERS....

Needless to say, I'm thrilled with the progress.  It feels so much better when I drive into my garage.

It was an awesome day and we're not even finished.  Check out our second Periscope video to hear Jennifer's plan for Phase II.

Lastly, if you're on Persicope, be sure to follow me @dwellbycheryl!

Until next week....
