"Laidback Luxury Reveal: Part 1"

Well today’s the day I’ve been waiting for. While I guess this reveal is a little different, in that technically it was available on my website on January 1st.  I have a feeling that if you just briefly browsed the new site, you likely missed it. So let’s give this project the respect it deserves and just share it on the blog like we usually do. Shall we?

This project was completed for the sweetest family. I actually met them year’s ago and we were finally able to work together. What struck me most, besides their complete trust in me, was their willingness to wait. Over a year went by before their turn was up on the wait list and they refused to move on to someone else. I was flattered, but I have to admit that put just a little pressure on me.

They were looking to give their fairly new home a look more suitable to their personal style. They essentially needed help with the entire first floor, but we’ll break the reveal into three parts. Let’s begin with the living space.

The living room wasn’t really bad. I think the client’s just felt boxed in with the selections they’d made. The room didn’t have enough color and life for their liking.

While I liked that they added some archetectiual interest with the picture molding, I didn't like the fact that the white was bossy.  It was limiting the direction I could go.  We simply painted out the trim and suddenly the space was so much more sophisticated.

The design plan began with an orange and gray scheme, but an amazing find changed that to include much more blue. That happens sometimes in budget decorating. I’ve learned not to fight it, but let the bargains take the project where it wants to go. I’ve never regretted trusting my instincts. This is also why you have to trust you designer.

So, here it is.

You’ll notice that I was able to reuse the existing chairs. And yes they are black ticking stripe and the sofas are indeed navy. These are the type of details that don’t matter so much in a finished space. The gray wall and gray floral accents make the neutral ticking work perfectly.

The abstract canvas was one of my favorite things in this space. It was a ninth hour find that I believe was literally dropped out of heaven it worked so well. I snapped this picture to make sure I wasn’t crazy when I found it.

Crazy, right?

Here are a few final details...

So, what do you think?  I hope you like this one as much as I do.  I'll be back a little later this week to share more on this project.  Happy Monday!

Thanks so much Bethany! I don't necessarily dislike white molding, but it just wasn't working for me in this narrow space.
