"Blog Following 101: Leaving a Comment"

My birthday week is off to a great start!  I had an opportunity to visit the Art Institute of Chicago on Monday and I can't wait to tell you more about it. 

In the meantime, I'm excited to announce that later this week I'll be featuring my first official blogger guest post.  Jennifer of Pure and Simple Organizing will be sharing some great ideas for closet organization.  You guys enjoyed "Closet Eye Candy" so much that I thought it would be a nice follow-up. 

But first, because we'd like to give our guest blogger some great feedback, I want to make sure that everyone is familiar with how to actually leave a comment.  I've heard that many of you are still not able to figure out how to leave a comment.  Not to mention the fact that I receive far more replies to blog feed emails with feedback than I do comments on the site.  Just so you know, it's always best to leave a comment on the site.  Potential sponsors will want to see that I, not only have a solid following, but that I'm also  interacting with them on a regular basis.  Comments provide great "public" feedback to my blog post as well.  They also inspire others to leave comments.  So, don't be shy I LOVE hearing what you think, or how you'll use the info, or projects you've done, etc. 

So since we already established how to "Be a Follower", I thought I'd show you today how to leave a comment. 

Step 1:
First, If you're reading the post via email (not on the www.dwellbycheryl.com website), you'll need to click on the logo at the top of the email.  It looks like this. 

Then, you'll notice that beneath each post, just before my signature is a line that indicates, "Click Here to Join the Conversation".  Once you're on the site, be sure you are just beneath the day's post that you want to comment.  There is more than one on the site at a time.

Simply click on those words and a dialogue box will open. 


Step 2:
Type in your message/comments.

Step 3:
Next you'll need to identify who the comment is from.  You do this by clicking on the drop down list just beneath the dialogue box.

For the novices out there, the easiest thing to do is just select "Anonymous".  Be sure to go down to the last profile option listed (may require you to scroll down the list).  If you have a Google Account and you're signed in, your name/id will appear as the first option and your comment will read, "__________ said....."
If you select Anonymous, you'll just need to sign your name to your comment.  Like this....

Step 4:
That's it, just hit Publish.

See, it's not that hard.  So go ahead and try it out.  I look forward to hearing from you guys.

"My Master Bathroom Project Reveal"

So I finally had time to (semi) finish up my bathroom.  As you know from my previous posts (found here and here), I've been wanting to give my master bathroom and update for a while.  I bit the bullet this weekend and got the majority of it done.  The room had a shabby chic feel that I'd grown tired of and I've exchanged it for something a tad bit more modern.  I started with the shower curtain.  I really like the fact that it's goes to the ceiling.  It makes the room look ultra tall.

I still need to paint my other chair and get a new cushion, this one is a stand in.

  I finally broke down and got that orchid I've been talking about.  Wish me luck....

Lastly, I decided to tackle a little DIY project that I've been contemplating for a while. My bathroom window needed a little something and I wasn't sold on a valance.   

So I decided to cover a simple roller shade with a graphic fabric.  The actual shade is extremely inexpensive.  I picked one up from the local Wal-mart for about $5.00. 

When I purchased it I knew the width was adjustable, but I had no idea how it worked.  Thankfully, the instructions were pretty thorough.  The rod works sort of like an adjustable tension rod.  The excess can be torn or cut away.  Not too hard.

If you've hung any type of drapery rod or blind, the bracket is pretty simple too.  It's sold separately, but at $.99 that's no big deal. 

I actually forgot to purchase fabric glue so I used a hot glue gun. I only purchased a yard of fabric, figuring that even if it didn't cover the entire shade, it would at least cover enough to take care of the length of the small window.  Turns out, it was the perfect length. 

I simple laid out the fabric and left about 1 1/2" of excess on each side and the bottom to fold over and glue.  When I was done, I just rolled up the shade and installed it into the brackets. 

Viola!  I'm still working on getting the tension right so that it retracts properly, but I really like the look of it. 

It also blocks out quite a bit of light and the graphic print provides some visual interest. 

And, is it just me or do I need a real camera?  Mine just isn't cutting it.
