2012 Color of the Year

Annually Pantone, the company best known for its Pantone Matching System (PMS),
declares a particular color "Color of the Year".  This year’s Pantone Color of the Year is Tangerine Tango.

I must admit I’m not the biggest orange fan and the thought of having an orange room is a bit too much for me; even if it does look as cozy as this one.

However, I love the idea of using Tangerine as an accent color. It pairs so well with so many colors

The options are endless.  Here are a few ways to incorporate a little orange into your dwelling.

  • Weekend DIY dresser.  A piece like this would be beautiful in Behr® Orange Zest or Candied Yam.  Vintage pieces similar to this one are plentiful on Craigslist, in consignment shops and at a Goodwill near you.

See it, Like it, Do it!

I love magazines, print and digital.  If I ever actually calculated how much I spend on them each month, I’d probably faint.  Nevertheless, they're great for getting inspired.  A lot of what I do in my home comes from a color, scheme or idea I saw in a magazine.  Here are a few of my favorites from over the years….

  • This picture inspired my entire bedroom.  Clipped it even before I closed on the house.

  • Totally loved this idea for the kitchen and bought these transfers from Hambly Studios.

  • Saw this and loved the look so I purchased a variety of $0.25 glass taper holders.

  • I had this Goodwill chair in an olive green floral that I purchased for $10 and this picture inspired a pastel transformation.  As you can see, I sometimes write on the pages to keep track of my ideas.

  • Absolutely couldn’t resist wallpaper in the closet, although the ceiling was a bit too ambitious for me.

I saw it, I liked it and I did it and if I can do it, so can you.  Happy Decorating!
