"Dumpster Diving"

Ok, not exactly what I meant.  Dumpster diving is simply looking for treasures among someone else's trash.  Last weekend, a friend of mine called me to inform me that she'd just passed by an upholstered headboard and a brand new rug on the side of the street. She wanted to know if I thought she should turn back to get them.  You can only imagine that my answer was a resounding, "Yes!".    The rug was gone by the time she returned (of course it was), but the headboard remained....

What a great piece to pick up on the side of the road.  A simple upholstery and install and she could have this:

Her current bedroom is in need of a headboard, so you can see how this was a totally score for her.

Not bad right?  While I'm not officially a dumpster diver, I'd never pass up an item with potential on the side of any road.  For example, several years ago I picked up this by a dumpster on an evening walk in my neighborhood.

BEFORE

It was a little rough so I sanded it down a bit and add a coat of stain and sealant.

AFTER

I used it to stage the back porch at my old condo when I put it on the market.

THEN

Now it resides in my current home as a coffee table.

NOW

You just can't beat free.  Check out what a few other bloggers have found during their forages.
