Summer 2012 Fabric Trends

Back in February, I posted Fanatical About Fabric (one of my most popular posts) which highlighted my love for textiles and featured a number of current fabric trends at a local retailer. Well, I returned recently to that same decorator fabric store hoping to get a sense of the trends in textiles this summer.

Here goes...

1. Pink and Green.  Much to my delight, it was everywhere. And I'm not just saying that because my blood runs pink and green either.  This classic preppy combination is all the rage but in a more grown up and sophisticated way.

2.  Colorful Ikat.  We all know how popular Ikat is right now, but it seems that the colors this centuries old dying technique is used with have gotten a bit more "fun".

Pottery Barn Kids

3.  Stripes, stripes and more stripes.... You got to love 'em.  They are so versatile and come in so many variteies.  These red and blue options are perfect for a nautical or even coastal vibe.

Needless to say the section that caught my eye was this one.

Here are a few deals that caught my attention.

West Elm makes fabric?

So, head to your local decorator fabric store and pick up a few of the moment styles to quickly and affordably give your dwelling a lift.

Any other prints or colors you're loving right now?  Let me know.

Leave me a comment.  I'd love to hear from you.

"If My Outfit Was a Room: Spring Color Edition"

It should come as no surprise that this Spring is all about color!

No wonder that my friends and I all selected brights to wear to the Charlotte Passport for Fashion event this weekend.

It got me thinking once again, “What if my outfit was a room?”

Since I wore my two favorite colors Saturday, I have no doubt that if my outfit was a room, I’d absolutely love it.

House Beautiful

I was right.  I love it, and I think there are 3 B’s involved in using this classically preppy scheme.

1.      Think BOLD.  Too soft and you’ve got yourself a nursery or a bubble gum sweet tweens room.

 2.      Utilize Balance.  Balance the pink and green hues with more neutral tones like whites, beige, etc.

3.      Be Brave.   You know I love mixing prints, but this room below would’ve made even me nervous.  But the truth is, I like it.  I think it comes together very well and most of all I’m sure the homeowner loves it.  That is, after all, the designer’s job.
