"Ottoman Upgrade"

Back in January I blogged about upgrading my ottoman/coffee table.  It was originally a McCreary Modern floor model that I scored at the Habitat ReStore in Hickory.  I fell in love with the massive amount of storage it provided, but I knew I'd eventually need to have it reupholstered.  It took me a couple of years, but I finally had it done and I couldn't be happier with the result.

I opted for the same fabric my vintage sofa is covered in and dressing the piece up a bit with a fun nail head trim.

Mark of Baity's Custom Upholstery did an amazing job.  We tossed around a few ideas but ultimately settled on this design.  He really is a genius when it comes to bringing a vision to life, because my sketches often leave a lot to be desired.

I can hardly wait to settle in on a chilly fall evening someday soon and put my feet up on this beauty.

For the spring and summer I've been using my new gold coffee table which I love, but this one is so much cozier. It's almost hard to believe what it looked like before.

I love how unifying the sofa and ottoman seems to elevate the space a bit.  Kinda fancy, right?

I change out the pillows for fall and I recently had a few new custom ones made.  The more neutral palette is perfect for fall.

Sometimes getting things just right takes a bit of time.  I've found that when I'm patient and really hold out for what I want, I'm never disappointed in the end.

Have a great week!

"A Surprising Source"

Hi all!  I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend.  I'd like to say that I got some rest and relaxation, but I can't.  You know it's true what they say, design is never done.  I had hoped to be able to reveal my living room makeover today, but unfortunately stenciling the longest wall in your house is a very time consuming project to complete.  The best I can do is offer a sneak peek.

I think I'm really going to love the finished product.  Here's hoping I can get it done soon. My living room is a wreck.

In other news, I stumbled upon this awesome storage ottoman last week while surfing the web.

I've been looking for a set of two for a little entry makeover I'm working on.  I loved the fact that these were small but sturdy, offered ample storage inside and were covered in a modern yet neutral fabric.

They also received really great buyer reviews online and the price was unbeatable.  You'll never guess where I got them....

Yep.  That's what I said.  I know we're all obsessed with Target and their super cool on-trend options but you may want to give Wal-Mart a second look.  Now, I have to admit, I am NOT a Wal-Mart fan (for numerous reasons), but after perusing their website, I stumbled upon a number of winners.

Wal-Mart's website actually sells merchandise for a number of other more expensive sites like Wayfair, but the Wal-Mart branded items still offer the best pricing.  I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised with their options.  My shopping philosophy has always been a leave no stone unturned kind of approach.  Let's just say I may have just found a new stone.

Have you purchased any great home décor items at Wal-Mart lately?

"Upgrading the Entry"

Decorating your home is undoubtedly a process.  It's taken me several years to replace those budget-friendly pieces that I acquired as I was just starting out in the real world.  I still have a few of them lingering around here and there, but slowly but surely I hope to upgrade them all.

Next up on my list is the entry.  What I have now isn't bad looking, I just think it's a little dated. I blogged about it HERE.

The wrought iron bench is a remnant from a bedroom suite that I purchased after college.  It's been recovered several times and it's next stop may just be the curb.  I'm currently obsessed with the look of a sofa/console table and a set of ottomans/stools.

I love the fact that the stools can serve as extra seating when necessary and then be neatly tucked away.

I keep my eyes open for affordable options when I'm antiquing, thrifting and of course on Craigslist. This option would look fabulous with a new upholstery job in a modern fabric.

But for now, I'm focused on my client projects so this one will have to wait.  Until next time...
