"Flower Power"

I read recently that trends indicate that most people who purchase fresh flowers actually buy them for themselves.  The American Floral Endowment Consumer Tracking Study states that in 2000, about 67% of flower purchasers reported buying flowers for themselves and 33% reported purchasing them as a gift.

I found that very surprising.  I'm glad to know I'm not alone.  This is typically the time of year when I begin to buy them.  I find them  pretty hard to resist.  I think they are the perfect way to add a little "happy" to your day.  Of course, being the penny pincher that I am, I always aim to stretch the bouquet as far as possible.   In other words, I NEVER come home and simply put the entire bouquet in a vase.

So,  I typically purchase something like these.....

Then I group the flowers into different bouquets.

  • Grouping like colors and types of flowers....

  • Also grouping complimentary colors...

Pink and Green
Purple and Yellow

  • And selecting unique vases in varying sizes and colors...

I try to use all of the flowers in the bouquet, even if they're not my favorites.  I've found that by grouping the same type, more unattractive flowers together, they look a lot better than when coupled with the showstoppers.

Although, it doesn't always work.  There was just no helping these.....

I mean painted blue flowers?  Really?  I threw them out.

Here's to adding a little "happy" to your home
