"Fanatical About Fabric"

This weekend I got a chance to spend some time in one of my favorite places; the fabric store.  That place is like heaven on earth to me.  Honestly, I don't really know what it is, but I can almost hear the melodic voices of angels when I open the door to enter.

So many colors, so many textures, so many prints.  It's probably my number one place to get inspired.  On this day however, I was just looking.  I figured that with the change of seasons approaching they'd have out the new fabrics, and indeed they did.

  • Green was more prevelant than I've ever seen before.

  • Houndstooth....
      Modern Florals.....
      Tone-on-tone lattice...
      Paisleys, stripes.....
You name it and they had it in green.  Which surprisingly (or not) is totally on par with the designs trends as House Beautiful's March issue is dedicated to the same color.

I absolutely love a large modern floral.  I have no idea what it is about them that I adore, but I'm totally in love with them.  I think it's the fact that so many people end up with solid color sofas, with solid color throw pillows, with solid color drapes against solid color walls, that I think print fabrics are the easiest way to infuse life into a room.  I'd say wallpaper but most people break into a cold sweat when you mention "wallpaper".  So, I'm always quick to introduce a floral fabric or textile.

    • The one I spotted this weekend was a bit whimsical, but I loved it.  Apparently, the buyer did to because they had it in every color imaginable.

Can you guess which one was my favorite?  Here's a hint....

    • Of course, we discussed the yellow and gray trend in the If My Outfit Were a Room post and looks like the fabric retailers got the word.

Such a cute color combo, I'm using it in a friend's nursery I'm currently working on.  Here's one of the photos I'm inspired by...

    • Geometric shapes were all the rage as well.

    The Greek Key...

    Chevron....

Both of which are everywhere, and sometimes even together.

    • Lastly, there was the Ikat.  I'll blog it about it soon, but it's my latest obsession.

Hope you enjoyed the fabric tour as much as I did.
